New face for BLITZSPORT

- I have been studying Martial arts for 20+ years.
- 1st in Traditional Karate, then Thai Boxing, British Combat (Mixed Martial Arts Fighting), Kickboxing, Muay Thai and K1.
-I moved to Holland with my parents and finished my education over there.
-Thats where I got into Martial Arts by watching films of Bruce Lee, Chackie Chan and Jean Claude Van Damme, so I started to do Karate but I did not really like the Kata side of it (punch and kick patterns), I just liked to spar.
-Then I trained in Thai Boxing when I was older which is very different to Katate as its more fitness orientated and you can use elbows and knees whilst sparring.
-I trained at the same gym as Ramond ' The Diamond ' Dekkers he is now a Thaiboxing legend as he was the 1st European to beat the Thais and win a title in Thailand.
-Then I moved Back to England and I started to do British Combat under Peter Constendine and Geoff Thompson which I enjoyed a lot as you use punches and kicks, but you can also take people down and grapple with them on the floor. (It was an early version of Mixed Martial Arts and is very good for Street Self Defence) which helped alot as I was a fully qualified Doorsupervisor for 10 years!
-But deepdown I always enjoyed Thaiboxing, then I found Kickboxing, I thought I would try it as its very similar, but you dont use elbows and knees and I loved it.
Unfortunatally the club I trained at was not the enough for be to become a high level fighter, so I started my own club
-I trained hard as I could to win recoqnised titles,  then from there I went to see Master Cris Janson-Piers ( WORLD PRESIDENT OF THE WFKKO and WAKO FULLCONTACT COACH TO GB).
-I had to fight the best in Britain, but I finally got through and became a squad member of the WAKOGB TEAM -WORLD ASSOCIATION OF KICKBOXING ORGANISATIONS the largest kickboxing organisation in the world and I have represented GB at world level on many occasions.

I have been trained by many greats in the sport and have travelled the world to gain a vast amount of knowledge in various Martial Arts.

Im currently trained and managed by Andre Mannaart of mejiro Gym Amsterdam.

I am also Mike 'The Count' Bisping's sparring partner at Wolfslair Gym.

-And now I wish to share my knowledge of Martial Arts with you at the RED PHOENIX ACADEMY.

As a child I was timid and extremely shy, which unfortunately opened the door for bullies, inclusive of my own family.  One day I was befriended by a young woman, guru Tracey Beatty who decided to try to change my life for a better one.  To throw a punch or kick or any form of attack first learn to understand it, then
defend it, I was eleven, this is where it all begun.  Hour upon hour of standing defending and countering kicks and punches, a totally different view of what people know me as today. I became a stand up fighter and soon discovered I had a natural ability to learn from myself, the science of martial arts was quickly becoming apparent, so a complete fitness freak I became.  Still shy and completely disliking violence I set out on my quest to end my time as a victim and to help others do the same, martial arts was now my life.

Then came Bob Breen and Kenbukai, this was something else, the first system to mix all the arts inclusive of weapons, from this day nothing else mattered. Every morning, school dinner time, or evening I was doing something to improve my skills. At seventeen i decided to join the Parachute Regiment, what a disaster this was, I learnt my biggest lesson I was never to be an attacker but a defender.  So I set out to learn as many styles as I could, find their strengths and then their weaknesses, anything that worked I used, changing what was needed, making them my own. Then disaster struck Bob Breen gave up Kenbuchai and the dream of the modern combat system. Where did I belong now?

First Ekka but they would not except the use of my techniques, always being disqualified or warned for illegal technique, no not for me. Boxing great but when I couldnt out punch them, what next? That didn't work either.  Wadaryu? no.  Nijegashi? no. Jujiutsu maybe. Then one day at work out of the blue, i intervened in an incident with the company bully, the victim totally shocked said 'teach me!'.

After a long battle with my own lack of confidence I decided to re-write my own modern Combat System. I changed the spelling to Kenbuchai and called it 'street defence' then for 8 years (with the victim) Gary Goodyear, I created my own syllabus. How would I do this without being a fraud? I will make the black belt almost impossible to obtain, I perfected every move, then pulled it apart and found its counter hour after hour, week after week.  I took on the local gang leader in a back yard in Whitton Ipswich, he gave me a kicking, i did nothing in defence and when he finished, i stood up, spat out my blood, shook myself down and handed him what I had.  Buddy was my second student.  From then on and unwittingly I became the man to beat. My reputation spread fast .What next?

It was at this point I decided to put myself to the test and teach others and here starts my first club at the Ipswich YMCA. The students came along with the challenges, doormen, boxers, karate, all wanting to prove this new martial art was fake ,they failed. This really worked, my dream was happening. Then one Saturday afternoon i was visited by two gentlemen, Clive Greenlaugh and Smudge (Gary Smith) chief instructors of the biggest martial arts organisation within the armed forces EB, 'Join us' was there request, why not this could be fun. 2nd dan atemi jiutsu was now my army grade and 3rd dan kenbuchai mma .This is where my students were tested, hurrah two black belts! Robin Halls and Colin Jarvis well done, easy. Their response too my system "we cant put this in public they would shut us down!" so begun my teaching among the armed forces with edged weapons and sticks and a mighty friendship with a man I see as one of the best instructors I've ever known, Smudge.  He taught me all manner of ways to inflict serious pain with no effort and I taught him what ever I could.

As the club became stronger so did the opposition pushing me back to being on my own. First local complaints about the nature of what i was doing, then other instructors, then insurance, then even legal intervention, MMA was not to be allowed, so underground i went. In this time i earned a fifth dan in ju jiutsu, a recognised membership of the British Philippine Council and fifth dan in kenbuchai. MMA the modern combat system became reality with a full blessing from Bob Breen. So now was the time to test the water, lets fight.
MMA sport style, the rest you know. In my years i have fought to instil morals, principles and honour amongst my students. I have taught people that have gone on to be major achievers in life, who were self destructive.  Above all this, I have put my greatest achievement and closest friend in line for the test, my son Aj Bridgeman. Mick Jarvis was my personal test, another great achievement. All of my students have been given what I believe to be the best possible training in a mixture of martial arts and life experience. I have put my life into this and made many sacrifices along the way, my body is beaten, my life held back by my belief that everybody has the right to defend themselves against bully or trained fighter, either way they can fall and will.
